Big news from Clips on Demand so I sat down with them and got the latest buzz on what's happening...

dv: What is ClipsOnDemand.tv?

COD: ClipsOnDemand.tv is the subscription page on our website where users sign up to join our private channel on Roku. After selecting a subscription package customers will enter a username, password and email address before continuing to the checkout page.

dv: You guys use CCBill for you payment transactions?

COD: Correct. CCBill is a trusted payment portal for adult content. When a customer arrives at the checkout page they will see the subscription they've selected and be prompted to enter their credit card information. Once the transaction is complete they will receive an email from CCBill with their six digit Roku Code which they will need to access the fetish content on our channel.

dv: Awesome! For those who are unfamiliar with Roku, why don't you give us a little background on the Roku streaming device.

COD: Certainly. Roku is similar to Apple TV. It's a streaming device for your HDTV that comes with apps for Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and a few others preloaded. What sets them apart is Roku allows developers to create their own private channel. A private channel could be a place where you display all the cool YouTube videos you've created over the years on baking pies. It may even qualify as a public channel.

dv: I will create a link to Roku’s website that offers more detail on the differences of channel types so you can expound further on your private channel and how to add it to a Roku device.

COD: For customers who already have a Roku device and want to access new fetish content and popular categories they will need to click on the “Add a Private Channel” link in the account area and type in the invitation code: CLIPS or by clicking HERE.

Then from their Roku device they would update their channel listing and our channel will populate. People who are new to Roku would purchase a Roku device ranging from $49-$99 and create a new account at Roku.com before following the guidance I just mentioned.

dv: What about content providers, Mistresses, and so on, who want to expand their brand?

COD: They would do well by getting in on the ground floor. There are only 1,000 plus Roku channels total. When Roku gets to the point where it has 20,000 channels it will be like hundreds of clone apps out there for Angry Birds. Some Mistresses we've talked to have been in the game for over 20 years. They have a great online presences but their sessions are what its all about - tried and true! And its a ton of work to be proficient with your core business and still orchestrate a ballad of directors, makeup artists, webmasters, bloggers and social media managers. I'd imagine it would make you want to kick the crap out of some poor bastard, lol!

dv: Yes for sure, lol!

COD: Not everybody can be a Kink.com and not everybody can be a Clips4Sale.com.

dv: I'm glad you mentioned that. Let’s talk about your clips store. Very similar to Clips4Sale’s concept. I'm sure you guys get that a lot?

COD: We do. But first I want to say the folks at Clips4Sale have a very good product! It works! While developing our platform we knew we were going up against a juggernaut in every respect. But we saw some things that could be better and an entire market in the fetish community was being overlooked. So rather than trying to chase them down, given their ten plus year head start, and settling for a comfortable number two or three, we decided to offer something new. Without Clip4Sale their would be a lot of people out of work. And even more sexually frustrated people out there.

dv: Now adult content on Roku is nothing new.

COD: Right. Thanks for correcting me. There were about nineteen private porn channels on Roku when we were in the development stage. At this time there are now twenty. Clips On Demand TV just happened to be the first adult fetish company with a channel, but not the last.

dv: So with the addition of your Roku channel will you guys do away with the Clip Store?

COD: No. Without giving up proprietary information and where we would like to go, we still believe the Clip Store concept can be better. There are still gapping wholes out there and eventually someone is going to come along and fill them. We already see the need to have a dedicate Roku private channels for BDSM, Ballbusting and Domination, to name a few.

dv: Are there other technologies due to crest in the not to distant future?

COD: Roku just released the Roku streaming stick. It’s about the size of Google’s Chromecast and perfect for the world traveler. Google Chromecast is a nice device but you can only cast from the Google Chrome browser. When they open Chromecast up to developers, which will likely run on Android, it is unknown if adult content will be allowed. However, their are more smart TV manufactures shipping their products with parental control already built in. There’s also some talk about Amazon releasing its own streaming device so a lot of new business opportunities may open up giving consumers more ways to access their fetish content and fetish companies alternative ways to market and sell their media.

dv: Well with the internet people are connected everywhere. All it takes is a click of the button for people to find what they want. They don't necessarily have to go out and get a streaming device to get there fix of fetish media.

COD: You are absolutely right. Which is why we have no plans to abandon the Clip Store concept. But if you recall before the Internet we all had TVs. Now you can't own a TV without have a digital signal. So either you cut the cord and use rabbit ears if you do not want to give in to being muscled by your cable provider or you upgrade with the latest HDTV loaded with I/Os for everything. Most people will probably buy a 42” flatscreen before dropping $1299 on an iMac computer because its dirt cheap in comparison. With over 5,000,000 Roku devices sold in the United States alone people are likely to warm up to getting their fetish fix streamed on a 42” screen as opposed to a 21” monitor.

dv: So how will Mistresses, Femdom’s and Domina’s get paid?

COD: Good question. We are going with the Netflix model since it is proven to work given their 44 million subscribers globally. We will acquire the rights to a certain number of clips for an agreed upon price and time period. After which, assuming those titles were successful with our viewership, we will remove the older media and lease newer titles. This ensures paying subscribers refreshingly new content each month across an array of popular categories. The challenge for us is coming up with a good price point for content since we are dealing with clips and not full featured films. You also have the quality of the media itself, versus the performer, category and studio producing the content, which are all mitigating factors in how much the media should be licensed for.

dv: Challenging!

COD: Yes very challenging. And like Netflix, as well as some of the other adult channels on Roku, there is added value in having original content that is only available on your channel and nowhere else. So it makes since to produce some of our own original fetish content and work with other studios houses on collaborations.

dv: I guess some of your partners are going to want their own channels. Can they create their own studio within your channel as the website and other Clip Store?

COD: Not at this time. I am not sure Roku would even offer allow it. Their core business is hardware, the Roku streaming device itself, and software second. But you better believe we've considered it. It would be nice.

dv: You mentioned how consumers could add your channel to their device. How would content providers in the fetish community partner with your channel?

COD: Same as the Clips Store actually. They would go to our home page ClipsOnDemand.xxx and click on the ‘New Studio’ tab at the top to complete the online sign up form. Because essentially, if we are leasing media for ninety days or more we have to document what company or individual these expenditures are going to so we can tie the meta data to their studio. And of course for tax purposes.

dv: Thanks for the information, it sounds great and I encourage producers to look into it!
